Without being a European citizen you can reunite family members.

Family reunification under the general regime

It is the immigration procedure through which a non-European citizen who has had legal residence in Spain for at least one year and has at least one more year remaining on their residence permit can bring their family members to the country. This grants them a residence and work permit with a proportional duration to the residence card of the sponsoring person.

The family members you can reunite are: your children or your partner’s children under 18 years old, or those unable to support themselves due to health conditions; your spouse or registered partner; and (only if you have long-term residency) your parents or in-laws over 65 years old. Below are the main requirements:

Have sufficient financial means

IPREM

For 2 members (the sponsor and the reunified family member), a minimum amount of 150% of the IPREM is required. For each additional member, 50% of the IPREM must be added.

Housing

Have adequate housing to accommodate the reunified family member

Support

If you are an employee: Provide an employment contract (minimum one year or indefinite) and the last 6 pay slips. If you are self-employed, provide the latest IRPF tax declaration

Demonstrate economic dependency

Remittances

Money transfers over the past years or covering important expenses of the family member to be reunited

Family reunification under the Community regime

It is the immigration procedure through which a citizen of the European Union can bring their family members to Spain, granting them a residence and work permit known as the EU Citizen Family Residence Card, which initially has a duration of five years.

The family members you can reunite under the Community regime are: your parents or in-laws over 65 years old, your children or your partner’s children under 18 years old or unable to provide for their own needs due to their health condition, your spouse or registered partner, and any other family member who, due to serious health issues or disability, requires the EU citizen to take personal care of them.
